Palm/Passion Paradox and Intentional Discipleship
Dear Protégé of Jesus,
Palm Sunday/Passion Sunday has come and gone for this year. However, I want you to know that Palm/Passion Sunday welcomed us into a sacred mystery, a moment where joy and sorrow, praise and pain, celebration and suffering meet in divine tension. We waved our palms and cried out “Hosanna!” knowing full well that the cross lay ahead. And yet, that is the beauty and challenge of this season: learning to walk with Jesus through both the cheers of the crowd and the silence of the suffering.
This paradox is not confined to Holy Week alone; it mirrors the life we are called to live every day. In our journey of faith, we often find ourselves caught between celebration and struggle. Fear, assumptions, and internal biases, both visible and invisible, can shape how we respond to life’s difficulties. At times, we forget how near Christ is. Or perhaps we are still learning to hear His voice spoken through the Spirit, revealed in Scripture, confirmed in community, and held in His ever-present grace.
But here’s the good news: even in this tension between what we believe and what we wrestle with, Jesus is with us. And in that space, He calls us to a victorious faith.
It’s a faith that nurtures our mental and emotional well-being.
A faith that whispers hope when everything feels uncertain.
A faith that reminds us we can’t separate praise from purpose.
As a protégé of Jesus, your calling is both beautiful and bold:
-
To live your faith with honesty and courage, especially when it’s not easy.
-
To help create a culture where every person hears and trusts God’s unique call on their life.
-
To pursue wholeness—not just spiritually, but mentally and emotionally, as a full expression of discipleship.
-
To stand against racism and injustice—not with empty slogans, but through relationships, truth, and the gospel’s deep work.
-
To strengthen the body of Christ, listening with love and walking together toward justice, mercy, and grace.
Palm/Passion Sunday teaches us this: Jesus still comes. Humbly. Lovingly. Faithfully. He rides into the chaos of our cities and the questions of our hearts. Even when our praise feels weak or our fears seem loud, Christ draws near and invites us to walk with Him.
So keep your head up, Protégé. The journey is challenging, but it is sacred. And Jesus is leading the way.
Peace & Blessings,
Russell M. Morrow Sr.
