Following Jesus

Dear Protégé of Jesus,

As you travel the road of life—whether you're stepping into the springtime of youth, navigating the transitions of adulthood, or standing steady with the wisdom of lived years—there is one truth that remains: God desires to walk with you, step by step.

No matter your season, the daily journey with Jesus is built on the same foundation. And sometimes, the most powerful truths are the simplest ones we learned when we were young.

There are two scriptures I learned early in life, and I’ve carried them in my heart ever since. They’ve guided me through joy and sorrow, success and struggle, and they still shape my walk with God today. Whether you’re learning them for the first time or recalling them as an old friend, I invite you to reflect on them again, because they offer clarity for your path and encouragement for others around you.

Step 1: God’s Word Shows You Where to Go

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” — Psalm 119:105

Life doesn’t always offer easy answers or well-marked roads. There are moments when the next step isn’t obvious. But God has given us a light—a lamp for our feet. His Word illuminates the way forward. It may not show us the whole road at once, but it gives enough light to take the next faithful step.

When you’re unsure what to do, let the Word of God guide you. Revisit scripture like you would return to a familiar trail, trusting that God’s truth will never lead you astray.

Guidance to Remember: God’s Word is my flashlight.

Step 2: God’s Word Lives in Your Heart

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” — Psalm 119:11

Hiding God’s Word in your heart means internalizing it—through reading, memorizing, and meditating on it—so that it becomes a part of who you are. When we do that, the Word becomes more than knowledge—it becomes a compass for our choices and a wellspring of strength in times of testing.

This step is especially vital for those further along in life. You become a living witness. What you've hidden in your heart becomes the encouragement someone else may need to hear.

Guidance to Remember: God’s Word lives in my heart.

Step 3: God’s Love Helps You Follow Him

Each day on this road, you are not alone. You are deeply loved by God—and it is His love that sustains your journey. His love strengthens you when you're weary, corrects you when you wander, and celebrates you when you walk in His way.

Whether you're beginning your walk or mentoring someone just starting out, remember this: the love of God empowers us to follow Him with joy. His love makes the road of life a sacred path—leading us not just through this life, but toward eternal life.

Guidance to Remember: God’s love helps me follow Him.

A Word for the Journey:

Let these three truths guide you—and if you’ve known them for years, don’t keep them to yourself. Share them. Live them. Teach them to someone who is finding their way. Because the road of life is not a sprint but a journey of faithful steps.

  • God’s Word is my flashlight.
  • God’s Word lives in my heart.
  • God’s love helps me follow Him.

Keep walking with God, step by step. And wherever you are on the road, never forget—your faithful walk may be the light someone else needs to see.

Peace & Blessings,
Russell M. Morrow Sr.

Take a moment now to reflect in prayer—or even write one down—asking God to guide your steps, renew your heart, and use your journey to bless someone else.

Remember: God’s love helps me follow Him.
